What the flashing LED's Mean:
Note: On the Xbox, the hard drive contains a code that matches the
motherboard, they must be replaced as a set unless you install a mod chip. A
mod chip is the best way to enjoy your Xbox and avoid problems in the
future. A mod chip allows you to install any hard drive or motherboard and
allows game play without using the game disc. The games are stored on the
hard drive, preventing scratched and lost discs..
Flashing Red and Orange:  Video problem. Make sure the cable in the back
of the Xbox is plugged in securely. You may also want to try a new cable
available on this web site. If all else fails, you will need to replace the
motherboard and hard drive. (Or mod chip and motherboard.)
Flashing Red and Green: Check error codes below.
Steady Green and No Video: You will need a motherboard and hard drive. (Or
motherboard and mod chip.)
Flashing Green and Steady Red: You will need a motherboard and hard
drive. (Or motherboard and mod chip.)
Turns On and Off 3 Times, then Flashes: You will need a motherboard and
hard drive. (Or motherboard and mod chip.)
Error Codes:
Compare the number in the upper left corner of your screen with the list
below.
1 -  Motherboard failure.

2 -  Eeprom check failure.

4 -  Ram check failure.

5 - Hard drive not locked (Xboxes require the hd to be locked).

6 -  Cannot unlock Hard drive.

7 - Hard drive timeout.

8 -  No Hard drive found.

9 - Hard drive parameters (PIO/DMA/or size (debug).

10 - DVD drive timeout.

11 - No DVD drive found.

12 -  DVD parameters. (PIO/DMA).

13 - Dashboard launch fail (missing / bad key, or anything else that would
prevent it from running) dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

14 - dashboard - Error loading dashboard. (dashboard generic error).

16 - dashboard - Other files to do with dashboard / dashboard settings.
(specific dashboard error).

20 - The dashboard attempted to load and failed.

21 - Machine was booted to display a error, then re-booted.
