First, open the PSP, there are 6 screws on the bottom, and 1 on the side, inside the battery cover, you will have to remove the small decal.
Now that the case is open, you can get to the joystick control, it's held in by 2 screws. That's the faceplate and all the buttons right there. The faceplate can now be changed and put back together. If you want to continue, read on. The best way to do this is to try and remove as much as possible while disconnecting as little as possible. The photo on the right shows how several cables can be left connected when changing the shell.

Gently slide the button bar away from the little tabs in the case. Always use great care when prying on a display screen. If you pry with a metal tool, you will almost certainly crack the screen and ruin it. If you feel you must pry, use something plastic or wood and be gentle.
The photo on left shows the power switch board. In the bottom red circle is one of the clips that hold the board in place, the other is right behind that cable. Circled in blue is the power switch itself. Remove the screw to release the power jack circled in red on top. Remove screw circled in blue in center photo, this will release the L key assembly. Photo on right shows right shoulder button, part of the R Key assembly.
On this type of connector, you lift on the little tabs that are circled. Notice the backlight connector on the left, try not to remove it because it is very difficult to put back in.
On this type of connector, you carefully lift the black part of the connector, usually a fingernail is all you need.
Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable underneath the display. Now if you need, you can get to the display and backlight by carefully separating the display frame.
