| First, open the PSP, there are 6 screws on the bottom, and 1 on the side, inside the battery cover, you will have to remove the small decal. |
| Now that the case is open, you can get to the joystick control, it's held in by 2 screws. That's the faceplate and all the buttons right there. The faceplate can now be changed and put back together. If you want to continue, read on. The best way to do this is to try and remove as much as possible while disconnecting as little as possible. The photo on the right shows how several cables can be left connected when changing the shell. |
| Gently slide the button bar away from the little tabs in the case. Always use great care when prying on a display screen. If you pry with a metal tool, you will almost certainly crack the screen and ruin it. If you feel you must pry, use something plastic or wood and be gentle. |

Circled in blue is the power switch itself. Remove the screw to release the power jack circled in red on top. Remove screw circled in blue in center photo, this will release the L key assembly. | On this type of connector, you lift on the little tabs that are circled. Notice the backlight connector on the left, try not to remove it because it is very difficult to put back in. |

| To work on the PSP, you need a #00 screwdriver available on our website, the #0 and #1 are a little too large. The faceplates and joystick controller are real easy to replace. |
Remove the screws on the display bracket and remove it, you may have to push the door release
button to get it loose. Remove the remaining screws and unplug the 2 drive cables. Remove the 4
screws circled in red to take the drive out.

To remove the memory card door from the retainer, cut the little plastic "welds" with a small

When you put it back together, just make sure you add the parts shown on left first and you'll be
fine. Don't forget the IR sensor cover circled in red. The right shoulder button contact on the R key
cable and the IR sensor cover will need a little adhesive to hold it down. Put a little clear silicone
adhesive on the tip of your screwdriver and smear it on there. The silicone adhesive, shown on
right, is an absolute must for having around anyway. If you make a mistake, it can be peeled off, yet
it's strong enough to hold almost anything. Almost any store has it.

The PSP is a good easy repair, just use extra care with the cable connectors. It may appear
complicated looking at all the photos, but it's real straight forward. If you have some screws left
over, no big deal, it won't weigh too much. Just be patient and have fun with it.
